    Night Life 2006

The claimed DJs of all DJs, Danny Tenaglia was scheduled to play a 5 hours set at ZOUK KL on 30.12.2006. Danny Tenaglia was one of the first few DJs that I know when I first started clubbing. That was like more than 9 years ago. Therefore, seeing him play live is an opportunity not to be missed. I heard that when he spins, he doesn’t want any strangers near his console.

Once again, I managed to catch fireworks display to celebrate the New Year. This time round, I did it in Melaka at one event by the name the Carnival.

The Carnival is an outdoor rave has 4 rooms namely the Hardsequence room, the Regenerate room, Hotel Scandalos and The Bar. Each room plays different types of music. The main attraction for me is Hardsequence room of course.

    Hardsequence room, open air.

The trip to Afamosa resort took around 1 hour. I drove, I picked Sharon Dilirius and Sow as well. I was speeding throughout the journey until one incident when I saw smoke in the highway. After passing through the smoke, I realised that a car has turned turtle in a drain!

So this is one event that I didn't go. Nevertheless, I'll blog about it.

The event was held at A'famosa Resort about 1 1/2 hours away from Kuala Lumpur. Loads of open space. Partying under the stars. And with international DJs and great local DJs like Naughty by Nature, Christian Smith, King Unique, Bass Agents & SOUL T

All at only RM35 for pre sale and RM45 on door! Cheaper than going to any concerts in town aa!

Then you have hardcore clubbers like this.

    Skybar @ Trader's Hotel

    October 25, 2006

    xes

Skybar is the latest night spot in town. Located on the 33rd Floor of Trader’s Hotel (next to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, opposite ExxonMobil office), one may get a great view of the Twin Towers and it’s surroundings. If the haze is not around of course.

    RotiFish in the house!

The nightlife industry in KL is one cruel game. It is very common for clubs in KL to close down after few months in operation. And this time round, it’s Ruums turn. It has only been around 4 months since they revamped from Chanel to Ruums. Now they are closing for renovation and a new management will take over. No idea what the new club name will be, maybe Brooms or Vrooms. Heh.

Throughout the past 4 months, the old management has done a good job turning the place around. When the club was still know as Warp, I heard many stories about how people got so turned off when they saw middle aged men and women shaking their heads left and right to hard Chinese house music. Yao ah yao ah, wu chiew fun ah wu chiew fun,

But now, uncle and aunties were not that many. I heard that practised quality control at one point.

Anyway, Sow, Sharon Dilirius and I made a trip to Ruums. It was pretty rare for Sharon to join us but since Hardsequence is having their last night at Ruums, we decided to give them some support.

Since GanGaGuGu is spinning for this event and also that Tay persuaded me to go and despite the guest list being closed, Sharon Dilirius, Tay and I made the journey to Ruums for this event.

    The place was packed!

But at or around 12AM, people started to leave the club. It seems that there were rumours that the police are going to raid the club. On the last event, the police raided Ruums and detained few underaged patrons (and also a suspected rapist!). With the fresh raid on their minds, people were churning out from the club leaving a huge gap on the dance floor. The HS Crew fused it by announcing that there would be no police raid. I was later told that the rumour was trigged by a raid at Passion and Poppy. A friend’s acquaintance was arrested after being tested positive for drugs. Apparently she was on antibiotics and has her doctor’s letter to certify it. Unfortunately, the police didn’t release her.

    Ruums

Sow thought it would be funny if only both of us went for this event. And so we did.

When I was in England, my friends and I would drink at a pub before heading to the club. We save a lot by doing this.

Sow and I, being cheapskates, started drinking at home and bought some beers from grocery shops before entering the club. By the time we reach Ruums, we were quite drunk already.

Once again, another magnificent performance by the Hardsequence Crew. This time round, at Ruums, newest club in town. Ruums, formally known as Warp aka the ultimate fengtau club, has been revamped to change their image. I remember when the place was still Warp, the place was pitch dark. But now, the interior is many times nicer, huge stage, nice toilet and even with pool tables.

the first thing that comes to mind when you see the words "Mr Liquid" you think of toilet detergent.. or is it dish washing detergent?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the Mr. Liquid finals started late, about 1145pm and the crowd was restless. but finally, the 13 finalists came on stage, and introduced themselves to the judges and crowd.

The publicity given to this event was overwhelming. Newspapers were reporting about it, radio stations were blaring about it and most friends were talking about it as well. Further, I heard that although the official closing time would be extended from 3AM to 5AM! Also, I heard the venue would be bigger than the one at Sepang where Tiesto spun.

With Hard style DJs like Bass Agents, Kai Tracid, Thrillseekers, K90 and BK on the DJ list, it gave me the impression that the night is going to be one crazy night with hard thumping music all night long.

The venue is quite obscure, we have to drive through a small village that made it seem that we are driving to no where. Further, a signboard with an arrow saying “Dusun (plantation)” made us feel that we are going on the wrong direction. But the venue is actually a posh housing area, with bungalow houses scattered around.

According to Jeff, most of the night life entertainment outlets (partying, drinking etc) in Ho Chi Minh City are located in hotels. He brought us to a place called Level 23 at Sheraton Hotel. As suggested by its name, it’s located at level 23. Great view of Ho Chi Minh City.

Prior to that, I was pretty excited with the outing with Jeff, June and their furniture entrepreneur friends. My first impression of Ho Chi Minh City's nightlife - a city of 8 million people, awesome music and happening crowd with hand up in the air screaming their lungs out! WOOOOOOHOOOO!

Just like the previous one, it was awesome! The hard pumping music, the friends around and the atmosphere were just right. We had about 4 – 5 bottles of Black Label and by the end of the night, everyone was drunk. In a good way of course.

Also, I must record my sincere appreciation to Sharon Dilirius for bringing us in without going through the mad guest list queue. So mad till Tay stood on the same spot for 15 minutes and in the end decided to fork out RM380 for a bottle of Black Label to skip the queue!

As soon as the Bass Agents took over the decks, we were screaming our lungs out with out hands up in the air ala fascist salute. And that was what we did for the rest of the night. Bass Agent events in ZOUK is one event everyone who attend to experience the madness.

Initially it was just Sui Lin and I. Both of us were interested to see a Singaporean girl perform with a laptop and singing with it. What made it more intriguing is that she has performed in places like Japan, France and UK.

Then Sharon Dilirius and Angeline joined us.

Since it’s a Heineken organized party, beer was cheap. RM65 for a bucket of Heineken it and it comes with a free gift.

Admission was free but non-members of Heineken Music Lab would have to register themselves before getting in. I thought it was going to be packed, but it wasn’t so. We managed to find a place to sit.

Further, I had the privilege of the company of 3 gorgeous ladies. :D But the problem is that the 3 of them does not drink beer… ARGH. NO BUCKET OF BEER FOR ME! Fortunately, the Hardsequance crew was there as well, Jovi spared me a bottle :D

This time round, there were only 10 contestants left from the 17 contestants in the Semi Finals. Gurmit, Johnson and I judged this competition again.

We had the opportunity to be introduced to Freddy, the boss of Station 3. He treated us with some drinks though not as much as last week. Last week was crazy, the manager fed us with too much beer.

Since Swedish Daniel Norstom wanted to check out the scene in Melaka, we brought him along. I hope he had a great time there :D

Just right after work, Johnson and I rushed to Melaka to judge the semifinals of the Melbourne Shuffle Competition at Station 3, Melaka.

Many thanks to DJ Reeve for picking us up from Pure Bar, getting us a room at Fenix Inn and organizing the event.

Fenix Inn is one unique inn. It consist 3 adjoining shops. The ground floors of each shop consist of a cybercafe, the lobby and a BLOODY CAR PARK respectively. The car park can only fit about 6 cars though. We had to hand in our car keys so that the guards can park and repark the car.

    Left, the car park.

Station 3 used to be one of the most happening clubs in Melaka. But it’s been around for almost 6 years and as such, just like many other old clubs, their patronage lately has been dwindling. Therefore, they organized an event to attract the crowd back.

Since world No. 1 DJ, DJ Tiesto is spinning, Johnson, Cris, Melvin, Ivn and I made a trip to Sepang to see Tiesto spin. This time round, we had no girls in our group. Yeah, it was a sausage crew.

Parking was a breeze. And it was free too. There were few trucks of Luk-luk stalls on the car park as well. Reminds me of my neighbour’s party where he hired Fatman LukLuk to cater for his party.

Everything was smooth sailing. We reached about 10PM, just when Tiesto started.

Tiesto’s opening was superb. He had a lion dance troupe on stage welcoming his arriving. As soon as he pumped the music, fire works lit up.

DJ Anatta was hired to spin at Club Pure @ Melaka. So Cris, Florence and I decided to accompany her. We were given a free room at Aldy Hotel, 3 stars! :D

Frankly, I am not familiar with the clubbing scene in Melaka. But recently I have been approached by a club in Melaka to judge a Melbourne Shuffle competition (which will be held @ Station 3 @ Melaka, 24 and 31 March 2006, more details soon!) for them. Hence, it would be interesting to see how the scene is like beforehand.

DJ Ashvin of Club Pure picked us up from our hotel. The club is located somewhere around Melaka’s business district centre.

As we were brought to the club, my first impression was that the club is made from adjoining few shop house together. Well, in fact, it was a corner lot with brilliant interior and design!

    IMPRESSIVE!

The street where the club is located is theme as the mini-Bangsar of Melaka. There are other clubs and pubs there as well.

    Awesome and Pack!!

DJ Rotifish & Damien K in the house!

On a normal night, Saxophone Club is as empty as my high school library. But tonight, it was packed like a can of sardines.

Tons of shufflers, non shufflers were rare.

    Spot Sow & Amos..

Didjital warmed up but his set was as if he was ending the night. Pure Hard style I tell you. DJ Damien K vs DJ RotiFish (Big Ben) was next. Big Ben had so many supported until his non raving friends came over to support him.

    Aman Suria 7-11

    January 28, 2006

    xes

Since most pubs and clubs closes at 3AM, alcoholics like the likes of Umeng, Tay, Kok Wing and Big Ben had to find new places to quench their thirst. Aman Suria 7-11 is our new hangout place. The place is quiet and beer is readily available.

The rivalry between Old Klang Road and PJ is getting tense lately. Both camps claim that they could drink better than each other. So this time round, it’s Tay, Umeng and I against Big Ben and Kok Wing. Sitting by the road side, with DJ Kutski’s music blaring out from my car and tons of beer to compete, we started off sip by sip. Then some one went overboard by suggesting that we shotgun our beers.

Shotgunning is a means of consuming a canned beverage, especially beer, very quickly by a particular technique involving punching a hole in the side of the can near the bottom.[Will explain the shotgun process on my next post]

    One word, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Bass Agents for the guest list. And my personal thanks to didjital for the help. I pledge my utmost support to the Bass Agents! Wee! And of course, thanks to those who helped, you know who you are, I can’t reveal what has happened!

Fono warmed up for the Bass Agents until 1PM. As soon as BA took over, hard thumping hard style started playing. The crowd lifted their hands up in the air. It was ala Nazi hand salute.

Kenneth and Hoong - The Bass Agents

We had 8 bottles of Black Label opened. Drinks were flowing non stop. So was my money. And so was my soberness. Yet another mabuk (drunk) session!

    New Years Eve 2005

    January 2, 2006

    xes

Most of my friends decided to have a quiet new year this year. But I wanted to see fireworks hence I took the risk of being stuck in a jam and headed straight to KLCC.

But it only took me 10 minutes to reach KL. I parked my car in my office and walked towards KLCC. The roads weren’t jam at all. I guess it’s because of the heavy rain prior to the event.

There was some sort of free rave sponsored by Celcom, a telephone service provider. International DJs, Filterheadz and Above and Beyond were spinning.

Backstage. KLCC park is behind the wall. Look at the amount of people!

Since the rave was free, all sort of people ranging from tudong clad girls to foreigners attended the rave. Some were standing on the dance floor like they’re watching a show but some understood the whole concept of rave, hence they danced.

DJ Blink was already spinning when I arrived. The crowd seems responsive. But one of the Filterhead boys commented that the crowd was a little bit cold. Quite true, I could only see the front row and the middle row of the crowd dancing to the music.
